To-aamuna suuntasimme jälleen kerran koulutoimistolle, jonne annoimme allekirjoitetun todistuksen TB-testistä ja rokotteesta ja allekirjoitin lapun, jossa kerron, että on "uskomusteni vastaista antaa rokotteita" lisäsanoilla, että vesirokko-testi on otettu, mutta ei ole saatu tuloksia. Näin siis olisi tästäkin rumbasta kuitenkin päässyt eroon helpommalla. Lopulta kuitenkin kaikki paperihommat oli saatu valmiiksi ja saimme lapun, joka vahvistaa koululle, että lapsen voi ottaa kouluun oppilaaksi. Klo 11 suuntasimme koululle matikantestiin, jota lapsi tekikin 2 tuntia. Osa tehtävistä kun oli sanallisia, englanninkielisiä tehtäviä ja osa sellaisia, joita ei Suomessa koulussa oltu vielä käsitelty (mikä onkin melko ymmärrettävää, sillä lapsi on Suomessa ollut 6. luokalla ja täällä sijoitetaan ikänsä puolesta 7. luokalle).
Koulusta saimme ison kirjekuoren paperia, jotka sisälsivät valinnaisainelistan, koulun sääntöjä ja muita papereita, jotka tuli täyttää perjantaihin mennessä. Torstain aikana piti myös päättää valinnaisaineet tälle vuodelle. Koska lapsi soittaa jousisoitinta, koulu ehdotti suoraan toiseksi aineeksi jousiorkesteria ja toiseksi aineeksi valitsimme konekirjoituksen, jotta ensi vuonna voi ottaa esim. ohjelmointia. Illalla piti vielä käydä ostamassa tarvittavat koulutarvikkeet, tietynlaiset vihot, kynät ja laskin. Koulussa pakollisen kalenterin saimmekin jo mukaan koululta, samaten lokerikon numerolukon, jonka käyttöä on nyt ahkerasti harjoiteltu.
Perjantaina veimme paperit koululle ja saimme lapsen lukujärjestyksen mukaamme. Samalla maksoimme mm. urheiluasun (jokaisella on oltava liikuntatunnilla tietynvärinen paita ja shortsit ja on paljon helpompaa ostaa ne suoraan koululta). Missään vaiheessa ketään ei kiinnostanut suomalainen todistus tai se, millä luokalla lapsi on täällä ollut. Ilmeisesti haluavat, että täällä aloitetaan tyhjältä pöydältä ja oman ikäluokan mukana. Projekti vaati ajamista sinne ja tänne melkoisesti, mutta lopputulos on, että lapsi aloittaa koulunsa maanantaina. Huhhuh.
Toukokuussa pitää vielä käydä todistamassa joko sähkölaskun tms. tai auton rekisteröintipaperin kanssa, että oikeasti asumme tässä asunnossa ja tässä koulupiirissä. Ilmeisesti huijauksia on ollut ja jotkut ovat mm. vuokranneet pienen asunnon, jossa eivät asu, jotta lapsi pääsee tämän koulupiirin kouluun, joissa noiden papereiden mukaan "saa yksityiskoulutasoista opetusta ilmaiseksi" (paitsi pakolliset hankinnat ja "vapaaehtoiset" lahjoitukset koululle ja koulupiirille).
The guidance counselor called that my son should take a math test. That way she could figure out in which group she should place my son and make his timtable.
On Thursday morning we headed once more to the school district office and gave the TB-test result. I also signed a waiver about the varicella, since the results were not ready yet (we got the info on Friday that the test was okay and he should not get the vaccination). So finally we got the pink paper stating that my son could attend school here. At 11 o'clock we headed to the school for the math test. My son said later that it was a hard one since he had not learned all the things back in Finland. That is understandable since he is here going to the 7th grade where kids of his age go. They never wanted to see the papers and reports from his old school from Finland. Probably they want to start fresh and it is going to be difficult anyway at first because of the language.
And we got a big envelope full of papers. School rules, list of things you have to get before school and the selectives list. We had to select the selectives for this semester already on Thursday. Since my son plays the violin the school suggested that we should select the orchestra (for string instruments) for one selective (yippee!). For the second one he selected keyboarding so he can possibly attend the computer classes next year. Later we headed to an office supply store to get the papers, pens, calculator and other things that were needed. The calendar we already got from the school as well as the lock for the locker.
On Friday we took the papers I had to sign to the school and got my son's timetable. We also paid for the P.E. shirt and shorts since they all have to have the same color outfit at P.E. We were finally ready and my son can start school next week on Monday.
We still have to go the school district office in May. We have to present proof of us staying here, like the utility bill or car registration papers. I heard that there have beeb people that live in another place and rent a small place from here just to get their children in the schools here (!!). I knew the schools were good, but did not know they were that good. Or as someone said in one paper that we got "you'll get the nearly private school level of education for free".
