Jos ajattelette, että mitään ei tapahdu, kun kerran
blogikaan ei päivity, niin luulette väärin. Blogi ei päivity, koska
päivittämiseen ei vaan ole kaiken keskellä ollut aikaa. Tässä on viime
päivät tehty tiukasti hommia muuttojärjestelyiden kanssa. Lähtöönhän on
tällä hetkellä noin kuukausi. Kirppis- ja myyntirumba on onneksi jo
vähän helpottamassa. Pientä tavaraa, lapsen vanhoja leluja ja pieniä
sähkölaitteita saatiin 12 päivän kirppispöydässä halvoilla hinnoilla
häviämään kaapista suhteellisen hyvin. Osa tavaroista, joita emme ole
aikoneet ottaa mukaan / joita ei ole mitään järkeä ottaa mukaan (kuten
sähkölaitteet erilaisen jännitteen vuoksi), on onneksemme jo myyty.
Varsinkin ne isoimmat ja suurimmat murheenkryynit, kuten pesukone ja
skootteri, kesäkalusteet, olohuoneen vitriinikaapit ja tv-taso ja
televisiot. Osa näistä vielä nököttää paikoillaan ja odottaa hakijaa,
mutta uudet omistajat ovat jo niille löytyneet. Ainoastaan isosta
kulmasohvasta pitää vielä päästä eroon, sillä se ei todennäköisemmin
kuitenkaan tulevaan asuntoon tule mahtumaan.
Paperihommia ja byrokratiaakin on jo hoideltu, lentoliput on varattu, asunnon kaupat on tehty ja muuttofirmakin on varattu. Muuttofirma tulee pakkaamaan tavaramme kaksi päivää ennen lähtöämme ja sitä ennen olisi hyvä vielä saada ylimääräiset tavarat kaapeista hävitettyä, ettei konttiin mukaan lähde mitään ylimääräistä. Kaikkea sitä kaappeihin kertyykin, kun ei pitkään aikaa muuta. Ulkovaraston siivoushomma on vielä edessä, sillä ensin kova pakkanen ja sitten runsas lumentulo ovat hidastaneet homman aloittamista. Kelaan on tehty ulkomaille muuttoilmoitus, vakuutusyhtiöstä on selvitetty matkavakuutuksemme kesto ja pankin kanssa on yritetty selvitellä, miten rahaa tililtä käytetään / siirretään, kun meillä ei vielä ole amerikkalaista pankkitiliä (eikä sitä ilmeisesti saa auki ennen kuin on sosiaaliturvatunnus ja osoite). Olemme myös yrittäneet selvitellä vuokra-asuntoa kohteesta. Vuokrasopimus pitää näköjään yleensä tehdä 6:ksi tai 12:ksi kuukaudeksi, joten näkemättä ei tuollaista sitoumusta viitsi tehdä. "Mihin te sitten menette, jos teillä ei ole siellä osoitetta" näyttää huolestuttavan ainakin joitain puolison puoleisia sukulaisia. On erittäinerittäin epätodennäköistä, että joutuisimme taivasalle kuitenkaan.
Ensimmäiset yöt yövymme huoneistohotellissa, joka on jo varattu.
Autokin on jo vuokrattu ensimmäisille viikoille ja sillä sitten voimme
huristella katsomaan asuntoja heti saapumisemme jälkeen. Pariin
asuntokompleksiin olemmekin jo ottaneet yhteyttä ja peukut on pystyssä,
että jompi kumpi vaikuttaisi myös livenä hyvältä ja siellä olisi
edelleen vapaana se nyt vapaana oleva huoneisto. Craigslistissä näyttää
myös olevan jotain asuntoja vuokrattavana meidän toivekohdealueelta.
Ensisijainen suunnitelma on löytää heti se lopullinen vuokra-asunto,
vaikka aiemmin mietimme myös kalustetun asunnon vuokraamista
ensimmäiselle kuukaudelle. Pienen surffailun perusteella olisi kuitenkin
halvempaa vuokrata asunto ja kalusteet erikseen kuin yhdessä.
Jääkaapin oveen liimaamamme tehtävä-lista näyttää koko ajan vain kasvavan, vaikka sieltä jo monta asiaa on hoidettukin. Eli ei tässä ihan toimettomana tarvitse tätä loppuaikaakaan olla. Eikä muuton jälkeenkään, siihenkin on oma tehtävä-listansa, mutta se onkin sitten jo toinen juttu..
If you thought that nothing is happening, because nothing happens in this blog, you thought wrong. There has been no posts, because I have not had any time for it lately. The last weeks have been really busy with the moving preparations. Everything has to be done in a month. We have been quite lucky in selling our extra stuff, old toys and stuff at the local flea market. And we have managed to sell bigger stuff too, like our washing machine, tv:s and some furniture that we are not going to take with us. Some, because they are probably not going to fit our apartment in US anyway and some because the electrical stuff is not going to work in US. Our sofa still waits for a new owner.
There has also been a lot of paperwork lately. We have bought the flight tickets, sold our apartment and booked a moving company. The moving company will pack our stuff two days before our takeoff. It would be great if we could have time to clean the closets and get rid of some unnecessary stuff before that. I hope that there is not going to be any useless stuff in the moving container. There is still a lot of organising to do. We have also informed the Social Insurance Institution of Finland about our move, checked the validity of our travel insurance and tried to figure out, how to use the money abroad. We have gotten the information that we cannot open an US bank account before we have a social security number and an address in US, so we have to use our Finnish bank accounts until then. We have also been looking for an apartment from US. It seems that you have to sign a 6 or 12 month lease, and because of that we do not want to lease anything without seeing the apartment first. So we cannot tell our address yet, but it is highly unlikely that we would not get a place where to sleep.
We have actually booked a hotel room for the first nights and we are
trying to find a rental apartment soon. We have also rented a car for
the first couple of weeks so that we can concentrate looking for a
suitable apartment. We have actually found two interesting places and we
are hoping that one of these would still be available when we arrive
and would be as good as they tell that it is. There seems to be some
vacant apartments in Craigslist too.
We have a huge To-Do list in the door of our fridge. The list seems to be larger and larger every day. So we will be busy the last month too. And we already have a To-Do list to US too, and it is not a short one either. But that is a whole another story to tell.
